Monday, July 31, 2006 ::: CATCH OF THE DAY An album sitting on one of HMV's racks, totally unnoticeable. It costs $20 and has a rather awesome cover of Tal Bachman's "She's So High", so I got the album anyway although A) The idea of getting an album released by a pop idol winner is never appealing, B) I've never heard any of the other songs apart from She's So High, and C) I could've used the 20 dollars for a meal at McDonalds' instead. Surprisingly the album's rather listenable. In fact it has some really great songs on it. It's the kind of sound I've been waiting for so long. Its just rock/pop at its best, with good vocals. Sometimes you get good songs, but the singer is crap. Sometimes great singers don't get good songs. But this time round its kinda like the perfect match of summery pop tunes with a decent voice, and that's quite hard to come by. Its reminding me of the good days of Bryan Adams (when he was still good and didn't have to do duets with Pamela Anderson), or Mark Owen - as some songs carry the same awesomeness that's in the vein of the epic 'She's So High'. Songs that are upbeat, simple, easy listening, that don't require much brain power, don't carry much deep meaning but do mean a little something. It's just like what American radio would play in the 90s. It's just like when She's So High could be a hit. It's just like what I'd play if I had a car and could go on a road trip. Perhaps... my world was simpler then. Another catch of the day - Nelly Furtado's 'All Good Things', featuring Chris Martin. Finally this version has surfaced. According to some sources Chris Martin's voice has been taken down because of record label issues. What a pity. This version is so much better.
